Can the AI agent create Trello cards on specific boards and lists?

Yes. You configure which boards and lists the agent targets based on conversation context. Bug reports can go to Engineering > Bugs, feature requests to Product > Backlog, and support issues to Support > Incoming. The agent uses board and list IDs to place cards precisely where your workflow needs them.

How does the agent find existing cards to avoid duplicates?

The agent searches across your Trello boards using keywords from the customer's message. It matches against card titles, descriptions, and labels. When a similar card exists, the agent adds a comment to the existing card instead of creating a duplicate, keeping your boards clean.

What Trello data does the agent need access to?

The agent uses a Trello API key with access to boards, lists, cards, members, checklists, and labels. You control the scope by sharing only relevant boards. The agent cannot access boards that are not explicitly connected through your API credentials.

Does Tars store my Trello board data or card contents?

No. Tars queries the Trello API in real time during conversations. Card details, board structures, and member information are fetched live. We do not maintain a local copy of your Trello workspace data.

Can the agent handle Trello Power-Up fields and custom data?

The agent works with Trello's core API including custom fields. If your board uses custom field Power-Ups for things like effort estimates or client names, the agent can read and write those values. Third-party Power-Up data beyond the standard API is not directly accessible.

How is this different from Trello's built-in Butler automation?

Butler automates actions based on predefined triggers within Trello. Tars AI Agents understand natural language from customers and create contextual Trello actions in real time. The agent interprets a bug report, categorizes it, assigns priority, and creates the card, all from a freeform customer message that Butler cannot parse.

What happens if the agent tries to create a card on an archived board?

The Trello API will return an error for archived boards. The agent detects this, notifies the user that the target board is archived, and suggests alternative active boards. It never silently fails or loses the card data.

Can the agent work with multiple Trello workspaces simultaneously?

Yes. You can configure multiple Trello API connections in your Tars dashboard. The agent routes actions to the correct workspace based on conversation context, client identity, or explicit board references in the message.
