Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if a lead already exists in PersistIQ when the agent tries to create them?

The agent handles duplicates through PersistIQ's duplicate_lead_action parameter. You can configure it to update the existing record with new information, return an error so the agent takes a different action, or ignore the duplicate and skip creation. The 'update' option is most common, keeping your lead data current without creating duplicates.

Can the AI agent enroll leads in different campaigns based on their responses?

Yes. The agent evaluates qualification answers during the conversation, lists available PersistIQ campaigns, and selects the matching one. Enterprise leads go into your enterprise outreach sequence. Smaller companies get enrolled in your SMB nurture flow. Campaign routing is determined by the conversation, not manual assignment.

Does the PersistIQ API key give access to all user data?

Yes. PersistIQ's API key is company-wide and grants access to leads, campaigns, and events across all users in your organization. This means the agent can create leads assigned to any rep and enroll them in any team member's campaign. Control which campaigns are available by configuring your agent's routing rules in Tars.

Can the agent track email opens and replies from PersistIQ?

The agent can retrieve PersistIQ events filtered by campaign, lead, user, or time range through the List Events endpoint. This includes email sends, opens, replies, and bounces. If a returning visitor asks about a previous interaction, the agent can reference their engagement history.

Does Tars store lead data from PersistIQ?

No. Tars writes lead data to PersistIQ and reads it in real-time during conversations. Lead records, campaign details, and event history live in your PersistIQ account. Tars acts as the bridge between the conversation and your sales platform without maintaining a separate copy of your lead database.

How does the DNC domain list work with the AI agent?

PersistIQ maintains a Do Not Contact domain list to prevent emails to certain companies. The agent can retrieve this list through the List DNC Domains endpoint. When a visitor from a blacklisted domain chats, the agent can flag this and avoid attempting campaign enrollment, maintaining compliance with your outreach policies.

Can the agent create leads with custom fields?

Yes. The agent retrieves available custom lead fields from PersistIQ through the List Lead Fields endpoint, then populates them when creating or updating leads. If your PersistIQ account tracks fields like 'product interest' or 'company size tier,' the agent captures that data during the conversation and writes it to the correct fields.

How is this different from PersistIQ's native web forms?

PersistIQ's web forms capture static information. Tars AI agents have real conversations, asking follow-up questions, qualifying leads, answering product questions, and then routing the lead into the right campaign.
