What metadata does the AI agent extract from a URL?

The agent extracts Open Graph tags including og:title, og:description, og:image, og:type, and og:url. It also retrieves Twitter Card metadata, standard HTML meta description, canonical URL, and favicon. For sites without proper OG tags, OpenGraph.io infers metadata from page content so you always get usable preview data.

Can the agent scrape JavaScript-rendered websites like React or Angular apps?

Yes. The full_render parameter tells OpenGraph.io to use a headless browser that executes JavaScript before extracting content. This ensures metadata and content from single-page applications and client-side rendered sites are captured accurately. Standard requests only fetch the initial HTML response.

What authentication does Tars need for OpenGraph.io?

Tars requires your OpenGraph.io App ID, which you receive when you register for an account. Free accounts get 100 requests per month. The App ID is entered once in the Tars dashboard and authenticates all API requests. Paid plans offer higher limits and additional features.

Does Tars store scraped website content?

No. Metadata, HTML content, and screenshots are fetched from OpenGraph.io in real-time during conversations and used only for that interaction. Tars does not maintain a cache or database of scraped web content. OpenGraph.io may cache results on their end based on your caching settings.

Can the agent capture full-page screenshots or just the viewport?

Both. The screenshot endpoint supports a fullpage parameter. When enabled, the agent captures the entire scrollable page length. When disabled, it captures only the visible viewport area. You can also set custom viewport dimensions for width and height to match specific device sizes.

How is this different from manually checking Open Graph tags with browser developer tools?

Developer tools require opening each URL in a browser and inspecting the HTML manually. OpenGraph.io extracts metadata programmatically, and your AI agent delivers it in conversation. A content team can validate 20 links during a chat without anyone opening developer tools. Scale and speed make the difference.

Can the agent detect if a page has broken or missing Open Graph tags?

Yes. When the agent retrieves metadata and finds missing OG tags, empty fields, or low-quality images, it reports what is missing. Content teams use this to identify pages that will display poorly when shared on social media and fix them before links go public.

Does the scraping work on pages that block bots?

OpenGraph.io offers proxy options including residential and mobile proxies to handle restrictive websites. The use_proxy parameter enables this feature. While most public websites work without proxies, sites with aggressive bot detection may require the proxy option for reliable extraction.
