How does the AI agent send SMS messages through MSG91?

The agent uses MSG91's Send SMS API with your Authkey for authentication. It constructs the request with sender ID, route type (transactional or promotional), country code, and message content. MSG91 handles the actual delivery. The agent can send to single recipients or multiple numbers in one call.

Can the agent send messages on both promotional and transactional routes?

Yes. MSG91 supports route 4 for transactional messages and route 1 for promotional. The agent selects the appropriate route based on the message context. Transactional messages like OTPs and confirmations go through DND-exempt routes, while marketing messages use the promotional route.

What MSG91 credentials does Tars need?

Tars requires your MSG91 Authkey, which authenticates all API requests. You find this in your MSG91 dashboard under Account Settings. The Authkey provides access to SMS sending, Segmento campaigns, and event tracking. You can regenerate it at any time to revoke access.

Does Tars store phone numbers or message content from MSG91?

No. The agent sends messages through MSG91's API in real time. Phone numbers and message content are used only during the active dispatch and are not stored in a separate Tars database. MSG91 maintains its own delivery logs in your account.

Can the agent track custom user events in MSG91 Segmento?

Yes. The agent creates events in Segmento using the Create User Events API, passing a user identifier (email or phone) and an array of event objects. You can define custom event types in Segmento, and the agent logs them in real time based on conversation actions like viewing pricing or requesting a demo.

How is this different from sending SMS directly through the MSG91 dashboard?

The MSG91 dashboard requires manual login and message composition. Tars triggers SMS automatically based on conversation context, so a customer who confirms their order gets a text without anyone touching the dashboard. It also tracks Segmento events simultaneously, connecting messaging with behavioral data.

Does the agent support Unicode SMS for non-English messages?

Yes. MSG91's Send SMS API includes a unicode parameter. When set to 1, the agent can dispatch messages in Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, or any other script supported by Unicode SMS encoding. This is handled automatically based on the message content.

Can the agent retrieve delivery reports for sent messages?

The current integration focuses on sending SMS, managing Segmento events, and listing campaigns. Detailed delivery reports are available in your MSG91 dashboard. The agent can inspect failed events through the Segmento API, which helps identify delivery and validation issues at the campaign level.
