Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AI agent look up a member in my Memberstack account?

The agent uses Memberstack's Get Member endpoint, searching by member ID (starting with 'mem_') or URL-encoded email address. The API returns the full member profile including plan assignments, custom fields, metadata, and login redirect settings. The lookup happens in real-time during the conversation.

Can the agent assign paid plans or only free plans?

Through the API, the agent can assign and remove free plans directly. For paid plan changes that involve Stripe billing, the agent can guide the member through the upgrade flow or create the member with specific plan assignments at creation time. Actual Stripe subscription changes follow your configured payment flows.

What happens to Stripe data when the agent deletes a member?

You control this. The delete endpoint accepts optional flags for cancelStripeSubscriptions and deleteStripeCustomer. You can configure the agent to cancel subscriptions only, delete the full Stripe customer record, or leave Stripe data untouched. Each deletion is configured based on your business rules.

Does Tars store copies of my Memberstack member data?

No. All member lookups, updates, and deletions happen through live API calls to Memberstack. Member emails, plan details, and custom fields are fetched in real-time and used only to respond to the current conversation. Tars does not maintain a separate database of your membership data.

Can the agent update a member's custom fields and metadata?

Yes. The Update Member endpoint allows the agent to modify custom fields (like firstName, country, or any fields you have defined), metadata objects, email addresses, and login redirect paths. Updates replace existing values, so the agent sends the complete object for fields that need partial changes.

How is this different from Memberstack's built-in member dashboard?

Memberstack's dashboard is for you, the site owner. Tars AI Agents face your members directly, handling their questions conversationally on your website, WhatsApp, or any channel. Members get instant help without navigating account settings pages, and you handle fewer support emails about plan access and login problems.

Can the agent paginate through all my members for a report?

Yes. The List Members endpoint supports cursor-based pagination with configurable limits up to 200 per page and ASC or DESC ordering. The agent can iterate through your full member list for tasks like auditing active members or identifying accounts that need attention.

What security measures protect my Memberstack Secret API key in Tars?

Your Secret API key is encrypted at rest and transmitted over HTTPS. Tars never exposes the key in conversations or logs. Since Memberstack Secret keys carry admin privileges, only authorized team members should add the key in the Tars dashboard. You can rotate the key anytime from your Memberstack settings.
