No. Tars writes to and reads from Mem in real-time using the API. When the agent creates a note or retrieves a collection, it interacts directly with your Mem account. We do not maintain a separate copy of your knowledge base.

Can the agent retrieve a specific note during a live customer conversation?

Yes. If a returning customer contacts you, the agent can fetch relevant Mem notes by ID to pull up previous interaction history. This gives the agent context about past conversations, enabling personalized responses without asking the customer to repeat information.

Can I use the idempotent note creation to prevent duplicate entries?

Yes. The Mem API supports idempotent creation via the memId parameter. The agent assigns a unique identifier to each note creation request, so if a request is accidentally sent twice, only one note appears in your workspace. This prevents duplicates from network retries or webhook re-deliveries.
