Use Cases

Photo management through natural conversation

Real scenarios where AI handles photo uploads, album organization, and media retrieval, so teams and customers get the files they need without manual browsing.

Event Photography Collection Made Simple

A marketing team member messages the AI Agent asking to create an album for a product launch event. The agent creates the album in Google Photos, then batch-adds all tagged media items from the shoot. The team gets a shareable album link in under a minute, skipping the usual 30 minutes of manual photo sorting and uploading.

Instant Asset Retrieval for Client Requests

A client asks for the original high-resolution version of a photo used in their campaign. The AI Agent searches the Google Photos library by date and description, locates the matching media item, and provides a download link. The client gets their file within the conversation instead of waiting for someone to dig through folders.

Automated Project Documentation with Photos

A field worker uploads site inspection photos through the chat. The AI Agent stores each image in Google Photos with descriptive metadata, creates a dated album for the inspection, and adds location enrichments. Project managers access a fully organized visual record without any manual data entry or file management.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the AI agent search for photos by date or content type in my Google Photos?

Yes. The agent uses Google Photos' Search Media Items API with filters for date ranges, content categories (like landscapes or selfies), and media types (photo or video). You can also restrict searches to specific albums. Results include thumbnails and metadata so users can identify the right file quickly.

What file size limits apply when the agent uploads media to Google Photos?

The agent supports uploading images up to 200MB and videos up to 20GB through Google Photos' upload API. Files must be in supported formats like JPEG, PNG, GIF for images, or common video formats. Each upload can include an optional description of up to 1000 characters.

Does Tars store copies of the photos it accesses from my Google Photos?

No. The agent fetches media data in real time through Google's API. Photos, videos, and album information are accessed live during conversations and are not cached or stored by Tars. Your media stays in your Google Photos account under your control.

Can the agent add multiple photos to an album at once?

Yes. The Batch Add Media Items endpoint lets the agent add up to 50 media items to an album in a single operation. This makes bulk organization efficient during conversations, whether you are sorting event photos or compiling project documentation.

What Google Photos permissions does Tars require?

Tars requests the photoslibrary scope for reading library contents and photoslibrary.edit.appcreateddata for managing items created through the integration. These scopes are granted via Google's OAuth flow. You can revoke access at any time from your Google account security settings.

How is this different from using Google Photos directly?

Using Google Photos directly requires opening the app, navigating folders, and manually uploading or downloading files. With Tars, your AI agent handles these actions within the chat. Customers or team members describe what they need in natural language, and the agent executes the operation instantly.

Can the agent update descriptions or titles on existing media items and albums?

Yes. The agent can update media item descriptions (up to 1000 characters) and album titles (up to 500 characters) using Google Photos' patch endpoints. Cover photos can also be changed on existing albums. These updates happen in real time during the conversation.

What happens if a user requests a photo that has been deleted from Google Photos?

The API returns an error for media items that no longer exist. The agent handles this gracefully by informing the user that the requested item was not found and suggesting they check their Google Photos trash or provide an alternative identifier to search again.
