Use Cases

Quality compliance in real-time

Watch how manufacturing and laboratory teams use AI agents to manage calibration workflows, respond to audit requests, and keep measurement equipment compliant without spreadsheet chaos.

Audit-Ready Certificate Generation

An ISO auditor asks for calibration certificates for five torque wrenches. Your AI agent retrieves each gage record from GageList by serial number, generates PDF certificates for all five, and delivers the downloadable files within the conversation. The quality manager spends zero time searching through filing cabinets or navigating the portal.

Automated Calibration Data Entry from the Shop Floor

A calibration technician finishes testing a micrometer and reports the results via chat: as-found reading, as-left reading, tolerance status, and environmental conditions. The AI agent creates a complete calibration record in GageList with all the data points, assigns the next due date, and confirms the entry. No duplicate data entry into a separate system.

Overdue Equipment Alerts for Quality Teams

A quality engineer asks 'Which gages are overdue for calibration?' The AI agent queries GageList for all gage records, filters by calibration due date, and returns a list of equipment past their scheduled dates with locations and responsible users. The team prioritizes recalibration immediately instead of discovering gaps during an audit.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AI agent look up a specific gage record in GageList?

The agent uses GageList's Get Single Gage Record API, querying by the gage's unique ID. It returns all record fields including serial number, manufacturer, model, calibration interval, tolerance, last calibration date, next due date, and current status. The technician sees the complete picture in seconds.

Can the agent create calibration records with test measurements and environmental data?

Yes. The Add Calibration Record endpoint accepts over 50 fields including as-found and as-left readings, tolerance conditions, test results, calibration environment details, technician name, and master standard used. The agent gathers the relevant data during the conversation and submits a complete record.

What GageList credentials does Tars need to connect?

You need your GageList API Client ID and Client Secret, provided when you register for API access. Tars authenticates using OAuth2 client credentials flow, exchanging the ID and secret for a time-limited access token. Your credentials are encrypted at rest and never exposed in logs.

Does Tars store copies of our calibration data or gage records?

No. Tars queries GageList in real-time during each conversation. Calibration records, gage details, and certificate files are fetched live and used only to answer the current request. No calibration data is cached or stored in a separate Tars database.

Can the agent generate calibration certificates as PDF files?

Yes. The Generate Calibration Certificate endpoint produces a PDF from any calibration record ID. The agent calls this API and returns a downloadable link within the chat. Certificate size follows your GageList account settings, and the PDF includes all required compliance fields.

Is the GageList integration compatible with ISO 9001 and other quality standards?

GageList itself supports compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 13485, API Spec Q1/Q2, and 21 CFR Part 11. The Tars integration preserves full traceability by creating records with audit fields like CreatedBy, UpdatedBy, SignedBy, and signature verification data.

Can the agent handle attachments like calibration photos or scanned certificates?

Yes. The Upload Attachment endpoint lets the agent attach files to gage records. Supported file types include PDFs, images, and other documents. The agent accepts the file during conversation and uploads it with the correct MIME type and filename to the specified gage record.

What happens if a technician tries to add a calibration record for equipment that does not exist in GageList?

The agent can first search existing gage records to verify the equipment exists. If not found, it can register the new gage using the Add Gage Record endpoint before creating the calibration entry. The technician handles both steps through a single conversation without switching between screens.
