A visitor from Japan asks 'How much is this in yen?' Your AI Agent calls Fixer's Latest Rates endpoint for JPY, multiplies the product price by the current rate, and replies with the amount in Japanese yen. The shopper sees a familiar number and moves to checkout. Your store converts more international visitors without building a custom currency layer.
An accounts payable analyst messages your internal bot asking what the EUR/GBP rate was on March 15th for a vendor invoice. The analyst reconciles the invoice in seconds instead of digging through spreadsheets.
A traveler planning a trip asks your booking assistant 'What is the exchange rate for USD to Thai baht right now?' Fixer
FAQs
When a customer asks a currency-related question, the agent calls Fixer's Latest Rates or Historical Rates endpoint in real time. It passes the base currency and any target symbols, receives the rates in JSON format, and uses them to calculate or display the answer. The entire lookup happens in milliseconds, so the customer sees no delay.
Yes. The agent receives the exchange rate from Fixer and performs the multiplication itself. If a product costs $49.99 and the USD/EUR rate is 0.92, the agent responds with the euro equivalent. No separate conversion endpoint is needed for the basic Fixer integration since the math is handled within the conversation logic.
The agent first checks Fixer's Supported Symbols endpoint. If the requested currency is not in the list of 170 supported codes, the agent informs the customer and suggests the closest available alternative or offers to show rates in a major reserve currency like USD, EUR, or GBP instead.
On the free plan, EUR is the only available base currency. If your customers mostly ask about USD or GBP-based pricing, you will want a paid Fixer plan that unlocks all 170 base currencies. The agent handles either scenario, but paid plans give it full flexibility to match your customers' expectations.
Fixer provides historical data going back to January 1, 1999 for most currencies. The agent can look up the rate for any date in that range by calling the Historical Rates endpoint with the specific YYYY-MM-DD date. This is useful for invoice reconciliation, audit questions, and financial reporting conversations.
Every request goes directly to Fixer's API, so rates are as fresh as your Fixer plan allows. Free plans update every 60 minutes, while paid plans refresh every 10 minutes or every 60 seconds depending on the tier. Tars does not maintain a separate cache of currency data.
Sign up at fixer.io and your API key appears on your dashboard immediately. Copy it, then go to your Tars dashboard, navigate to Tools, select Fixer, and paste the key. The connection activates instantly. You can rotate or revoke the key from your Fixer account at any time.
Each Fixer plan has a monthly request quota, from 100 on the free tier to 300,000 or more on enterprise plans. The agent makes one API call per currency lookup, so high-traffic deployments should use a plan that matches your expected conversation volume. Monitor usage in your Fixer dashboard to avoid hitting limits.
Don't limit your AI Agent to basic conversations. Watch how to configure and add powerful tools making your agent smarter and more functional.
