Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AI agent retrieve extracted data from my Docparser parsers?

The agent calls Docparser's Get Multiple Document Results endpoint using your parser ID. It retrieves all extracted fields, including line items, totals, dates, and custom fields you have defined in your parser configuration. Results come back as structured JSON that the agent converts into a conversational answer.

Can the agent handle documents parsed by different Docparser models?

Yes. The agent first calls the List Parsers endpoint to see all available parsers in your account, then uses Get Parser Models to check which layout model applies. It routes each document query to the correct parser and model automatically based on document type.

What authentication does Tars need for Docparser?

Tars uses your Docparser API key, which you can find and reset under Settings then API in your Docparser account. Paste the key into the Tars dashboard when adding the tool. No OAuth or additional permissions are needed.

Does Tars store the extracted document data from Docparser?

No. The agent fetches parsed results from Docparser's API in real time during conversations. Extracted data is used only to answer the current query. Tars does not maintain a separate database of your parsed document data.

Can the agent tell if a document is still being processed?

Yes. By setting the include_processing_queue parameter to true when calling the results API, the agent can identify documents that are still in the parsing queue. It will let the customer know that processing is underway and suggest checking back shortly.

What document types can Docparser extract data from?

Docparser supports PDFs, scanned images, Word documents, CSV, XLS, TXT, and XML files. It uses Zonal OCR and pattern recognition to extract data from structured and semi-structured documents like invoices, purchase orders, receipts, shipping manifests, and bank statements.

How is this different from using Docparser's dashboard to view results?

Docparser's dashboard requires a team member to log in and manually look up results. With Tars, customers or team members ask a question in chat and the agent pulls parsed data instantly. No login, no navigation, just answers delivered in the conversation.

Can the agent filter parsed results by date or remote ID?

Yes. The Docparser results API supports filtering by upload date, processing date, and remote_id. Your agent uses these parameters to narrow results, so customers only see data from the specific time range or document batch they are asking about.
