How does the AI agent search Daffy's nonprofit database?

The agent uses Daffy's Search Non-Profits API endpoint to query by keyword, cause category, or EIN. When a donor asks about charities supporting a specific cause, the agent searches in real time and returns matching organizations with names, descriptions, and identification numbers. Results come directly from Daffy's database of over 1.7 million U.S. charities.

Can the AI agent create Daffy gifts on behalf of donors?

Yes. The agent calls Daffy's Create Gift endpoint with the amount (in cents), recipient name, optional delivery date, and personalized message. The gift is created under the authenticated donor's account. You can configure the agent to require confirmation before finalizing gifts above a certain threshold.

What Daffy account permissions does Tars need to operate?

Tars connects using a Daffy API key that you generate from your Daffy developer settings. The key grants access to read balances, donations, contributions, gifts, causes, and nonprofit data. Write access covers gift creation only. You control the scope and can revoke the key at any time from your Daffy account.

Does Tars store donor financial data from Daffy?

No. Tars queries Daffy's API in real time during each conversation. Fund balances, donation histories, and contribution records are fetched live and used only to generate the current response. No donor financial data is cached or stored in a separate database by Tars.

Can the agent filter donation history by date range for tax reporting?

Yes. The agent uses Daffy's Get Donations endpoint with created_after and created_before parameters to filter results by any date range. This is particularly useful during tax season when donors need a summary of their charitable contributions for a specific calendar year.

What happens if a donor asks about a charity not in Daffy's database?

If the agent's search returns no results, it informs the donor and suggests broadening their search terms or checking the charity's EIN directly. Daffy covers over 1.7 million IRS-registered nonprofits, so coverage is extensive, but some very new or international organizations may not appear.

How is this different from using the Daffy app directly?

The Daffy app requires donors to log in, navigate menus, and search manually. With a Tars AI Agent, donors simply ask questions in natural language through your website or WhatsApp. The agent handles the API calls behind the scenes, making charitable giving accessible without requiring donors to learn a new platform.

Can the agent retrieve a specific gift using its unique code?

Yes. The agent calls Daffy's Get Gift By Code endpoint with the UUID of the gift. This is useful when a gift recipient wants to check the status or details of a charitable gift they received. The agent returns the gift amount, sender message, and redemption status.
