Use Cases

Content operations made conversational

See how teams managing headless CMS content use AI to get instant answers about their Contentful setup without switching to the dashboard.

Quick Space Lookup for Content Teams

A new content writer messages 'What Contentful spaces do I have access to?' Your AI Agent calls the List Spaces API with their OAuth token, retrieves the authorized spaces, and presents each space name with its ID. The writer knows exactly where to publish their article without pinging a developer or waiting for a Slack reply from the CMS admin.

Seamless Rebrand Across Multiple Spaces

Marketing announces a product rebrand and the content lead needs to rename three Contentful spaces. Instead of logging into each space individually, they tell the AI agent which spaces need updating. The agent retrieves current versions, applies the new names through the Update Space API, and confirms each change. Three renames completed in one conversation.

Developer Precheck Before Deployment

A frontend developer is about to deploy a new site build and needs to verify the Contentful space ID and current version for their CI/CD pipeline. They ask the AI agent, which retrieves the space details instantly. The developer copies the space ID and version directly into their deployment config without opening the Contentful web app.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AI agent retrieve content from my Contentful spaces?

The agent uses Contentful's Content Management API (CMA) via OAuth. It can list all spaces your account has access to, retrieve specific space details by ID, and update space names. All API calls happen in real-time using your authorized OAuth token, so the agent only sees spaces you have permission to access.

What OAuth scopes does Tars request from Contentful?

Tars requests two scopes: content_management_manage and content_management_read. The read scope allows listing and viewing spaces. The manage scope enables updating space configurations like renaming. You authorize these during the one-click OAuth flow and can revoke them anytime from your Contentful account settings.

Can the agent access individual content entries and assets within a space?

The current integration focuses on space-level operations: listing spaces, retrieving space details, and updating space names. For entry-level content queries using GraphQL, consider the Contentful GraphQL integration, which provides direct content querying capabilities across your content types.

Does the Update Space action risk overwriting someone else's changes?

No. Contentful uses optimistic locking via the X-Contentful-Version header. The agent must provide the current space version number when updating. If another user has modified the space since the version was fetched, the update will fail gracefully rather than overwrite their changes.

Does Tars cache or store my Contentful space data?

No. Every query runs live against Contentful's API using your OAuth credentials. Space names, IDs, and version numbers are fetched in real-time and used only to answer the current conversation. Tars does not maintain a separate copy of your CMS configuration.

Can I limit the agent to read-only access to my Contentful account?

Yes. While the OAuth flow requests both manage and read scopes, you can configure agent permissions within Tars to restrict it to list and retrieve operations only. The Update Space action can be disabled so the agent never modifies your Contentful configuration.

How is this different from using the Contentful web dashboard?

The dashboard requires logging in and navigating menus. Tars lets team members ask questions in natural language from WhatsApp, your website, or Slack. Content managers can check space details or trigger renames without leaving their current workflow, and non-technical staff get answers without CMS training.

What happens if my Contentful OAuth token expires during a conversation?

Tars handles OAuth token refresh automatically. If a token expires mid-conversation, the integration uses the refresh token to obtain a new access token without interrupting the user. The conversation continues seamlessly with no reauthentication required from the end user.
