How does the AI agent create a new scanning service in CodeREADr?

The agent calls CodeREADr's create service API with a service name and optional postback URL. You can also include scan properties for added security. The API returns a service ID that you assign to devices through the CodeREADr app. The entire setup is one chat message instead of navigating the CodeREADr web portal.

Can the agent export scan records filtered by date range?

Yes. The retrieve scans endpoint accepts start_date and end_date parameters in ISO 8601 format. The agent returns data as JSON by default or CSV if you specify a template ID. This is useful for shift reports, daily audits, or compliance exports without logging into the CodeREADr dashboard.

What types of barcodes does the CodeREADr integration support?

CodeREADr supports 1D barcodes (UPC, EAN, Code 128, Code 39), 2D barcodes (QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec), and even damaged or low-quality codes. The agent can call the list supported barcode types endpoint to return every symbology CodeREADr recognizes, so you always know what your scanners can capture.

Does Tars store the barcode data scanned through CodeREADr?

No. Tars queries CodeREADr's API in real time and returns scan records to the conversation. Barcode values, timestamps, and device metadata are fetched live. Tars does not maintain its own copy of your scan data between sessions. Your data stays in CodeREADr's cloud.

Can the agent configure kiosk mode for unattended scanning?

Yes. The agent sets up kiosk mode by specifying an admin PIN to lock the device, optional manual input settings, Android screen pinning, and a branded portal URL. This is ideal for self-service event check-in stations or warehouse intake kiosks where no operator is present.

How is this different from using the CodeREADr web portal directly?

The web portal requires logging in, navigating menus, and clicking through forms. The Tars integration lets your team create services, pull scan reports, and manage devices through natural language in Slack, WhatsApp, or your website. Field teams and event staff can make changes on the go without portal access.

Can the agent set up real-time postback URLs for scan forwarding?

Yes. The agent configures a postback URL for any CodeREADr service so every scan result is forwarded to your server in real time. You can include custom scan properties like region or security tokens. This lets you process scan data in your own systems the moment it is captured.

What happens if I delete a service that devices are still assigned to?

The agent calls CodeREADr's delete service endpoint by service ID. Once deleted, devices assigned to that service will no longer submit scans under it. The agent confirms deletion and you can reassign devices to a new service. Historical scan records for the deleted service remain accessible through the retrieve scans endpoint.
