How does the AI agent create leads in Close CRM?

The agent calls Close's POST /lead/ endpoint with the company name, description, website URL, status, and contact array. Contacts include name, email, and phone number. The lead appears in your Close pipeline immediately with all details attached. You can set default lead statuses so new leads land in the right pipeline stage.

Can the agent log both inbound and outbound calls?

Yes. The agent uses Close's Create Call endpoint with a direction parameter set to either 'inbound' or 'outbound.' It also captures disposition (answered, no-answer, voicemail), duration in seconds, and free-text notes. Call records are tied to the lead ID for complete activity tracking.

How do I generate a Close API key for the Tars integration?

In your Close account, go to Settings, then Integrations, then API Keys, and click 'New API Key.' Give it a descriptive name like 'Tars AI Agent.' Copy the key and paste it into the Tars dashboard. Close API keys use HTTP Basic Authentication with the key as the username.

Does Tars store my Close CRM data?

No. Tars interacts with Close's API in real time. Lead details, call records, notes, and task information are sent to or retrieved from Close live during each conversation. We do not maintain a copy of your CRM data. All records live exclusively in your Close account.

Can the agent send SMS messages through Close to leads?

Yes. The agent uses Close's Create SMS endpoint to send messages from your Close phone number to a lead's phone. It supports immediate sending, scheduled delivery, and SMS templates. Each message is logged in the lead's Close timeline for full visibility.

What happens if a lead already exists in Close when the agent tries to create it?

Close's API creates a new lead record regardless of existing entries. To avoid duplicates, you can configure the agent to first search for leads by company name or email before creating a new one. This lookup-then-create logic keeps your pipeline clean.

How is this different from Close's built-in Workflows?

Close Workflows automate sequences after a lead exists. Tars AI Agents operate at the front of the funnel, capturing and qualifying leads through live conversations before they even enter Close. The agent handles multi-turn dialogue, answers product questions, and then pushes qualified data into Close where Workflows can take over.

Can the agent assign tasks to specific sales reps in Close?

Yes. The agent uses Close's Create Task endpoint with an assigned_to parameter containing the rep's user ID. Tasks include a description, due date, and lead association. If no assignee is specified, the task defaults to the API key owner. Reps see new tasks in their Close task queue immediately.
