How does the AI agent register someone for a church event?

The agent calls ChMeetings' Attendee Create endpoint with the member's first name, last name, email, and the target meeting ID. If a phone number is available, it includes that too. ChMeetings adds the person to the attendee list and the agent confirms registration back to the member within the conversation.

Can the agent create new meetings on the church calendar?

Yes. The agent calls ChMeetings' Create Meeting endpoint with a title, start and end times in ISO 8601 format, and an optional location and agenda notes. The meeting appears on your ChMeetings calendar immediately. Only authorized staff API keys should be used for this action.

What ChMeetings plan do I need for the API integration?

The ChMeetings Developer API is available starting with the Growth Plan. You will need a developer or admin to generate an API key from your account settings. The API supports up to 100 requests per 20-second window, which covers most church usage patterns comfortably.

Does Tars store member data from ChMeetings?

No. Tars queries ChMeetings in real time during conversations. Member names, email addresses, phone numbers, and attendance records are fetched live and used only to respond in the current session. No congregant data is duplicated or stored on Tars servers.

Can the agent send reminders through email and SMS?

Yes. The Create Reminder endpoint accepts a 'channels' parameter where you specify email, SMS, push notifications, or any combination. The agent can also target specific people by passing their person IDs in the 'recipient_ids' field, so only relevant members get notified.

How is this different from ChMeetings' built-in member portal?

The ChMeetings member portal requires users to log in, navigate menus, and find information themselves. A Tars AI Agent meets members wherever they are, including your website, WhatsApp, or a kiosk in the church lobby. Members just ask a question in plain language and get an answer without creating an account or learning a new interface.

Can the agent update a member's profile information?

Yes. The agent calls the People Update endpoint with the person's ID and a dictionary of fields to change, such as a new phone number, email, or address. The update applies to the ChMeetings record immediately. This is useful for information desk kiosks or post-service follow-up chats.

What happens if a member tries to register for a meeting that does not exist?

The ChMeetings API returns an error when the meeting ID is invalid or the event has been deleted. The agent catches this response, lets the member know the event was not found, and offers to check upcoming meetings from the calendar instead. No dead ends and no confusing error screens.
