What character data does the AI agent retrieve from ChatFAI?

The agent calls ChatFAI's Get Public Character By Id endpoint and receives the character's name, description, personality traits, backstory, and public metadata. The exact fields depend on how the character was configured by its creator on ChatFAI, but typically include everything needed to initialize a character-driven conversation.

Can my AI agent access any character in ChatFAI's library?

The agent can retrieve any character marked as public on ChatFAI. Private characters or those restricted by their creator will return an error. Your agent handles this gracefully and can suggest alternative public characters when a requested persona is unavailable.

How do I authenticate the ChatFAI integration in Tars?

In your Tars dashboard, navigate to Tools, select ChatFAI, and enter your ChatFAI API key. You can generate this key from your ChatFAI developer settings. Once saved, your agent can call the character retrieval endpoint during any conversation.

Does Tars store copies of ChatFAI character profiles?

No. Character data is fetched live from ChatFAI every time a visitor requests a persona. Tars does not cache or duplicate character definitions, personality traits, or any content hosted on the ChatFAI platform. All data remains under ChatFAI's control.

What happens if a visitor asks for a character that does not exist?

The ChatFAI API returns an error when the character ID is invalid or the persona has been removed. Your agent detects this response, informs the visitor that the character could not be found, and offers to help them explore other available characters instead of hitting a dead end.
