How does the AI agent know which Airtable base and table to query?

You configure this during agent setup. Map intents to specific bases and tables. When a customer asks about orders, the agent queries your Orders table. When they ask about projects, it queries Projects. You control the routing logic based on conversation context.

Can the agent handle linked records and lookups in Airtable?

Yes. The agent retrieves linked record data when fetching records. If a customer asks about an order and that order links to a Customer record, the agent can pull related customer details in the same query, presenting a complete picture without multiple round trips.

What happens if a customer queries data they should not access?

You define access rules in the agent configuration. Filter queries by customer email or ID automatically. A customer asking about orders only sees their orders, even if your Airtable base contains everyone's data. The agent enforces row-level security through query filters.

Does Tars cache or store copies of my Airtable data?

No. Every query executes against Airtable's API in real-time. Record data passes through to generate responses but is not persisted in Tars systems. Your Airtable bases remain the single source of truth.

Can the agent create records with complex field types like attachments or linked records?

The agent supports all Airtable field types that the API allows at creation time. This includes text, numbers, dates, single and multi-select, checkboxes, and linked records. Attachments require URLs to existing files. Computed fields like formulas are read-only.

How do I prevent the agent from deleting important records?

Configure deletion permissions per table. Allow deletes only for specific record types or disable them entirely. You can also require confirmation phrases before destructive actions. Most customers enable create and read, but restrict update and delete to specific scenarios.

Will the agent hit Airtable's API rate limits during busy periods?

Airtable allows 5 requests per second per base. Tars manages request queuing and batching automatically. For high-volume scenarios, the agent batches record operations (up to 10 records per call) and distributes queries to stay within limits. Enterprise customers can discuss higher throughput architectures.
