TomTom returns the route geometry, total distance, estimated travel time, and step-by-step instructions. The Matrix Routing endpoint handles multi-origin-to-multi-destination calculations for fleet scenarios.

What types of location searches does the agent support?

The agent supports Fuzzy Search (free-text address and POI queries), Category Search (businesses by type like restaurants or gas stations), Nearby Search (radius-based around coordinates), and Points of Interest Search (named POI queries). Each returns locations with addresses, coordinates, and metadata.

What authentication does Tars need for TomTom?

Tars uses a single TomTom API key for authentication. Generate your key from the TomTom Developer Portal and enter it in the Tars tool configuration. The key grants access to all Search, Routing, Traffic, and Map Display APIs based on your subscription.

Does Tars store location data or route calculations?

No. Routes, geocoding results, traffic data, and search results are fetched live from TomTom during conversations. Tars does not cache or persist location data between sessions.

Can the agent provide real-time traffic information?

Yes. The Flow Segment Data endpoint returns current speeds, free-flow speeds, and confidence levels for road segments. The Traffic Incidents endpoint returns active incidents within a geographic bounding box, including type, severity, and affected road names.

Does TomTom support EV-specific features?

Yes. The EV Charging Stations Availability endpoint returns nearby charging stations with connector types and real-time status. The routing engine can also factor in vehicle range and charging stops when calculating routes for electric vehicles.

Embedded maps require UI development and user interaction with a visual interface. Through Tars, location intelligence becomes conversational. Users describe what they need in natural language, and the agent returns structured data, directions, or map images without building a map interface.

Can the agent generate map images to share in conversations?

Yes. The Static Image endpoint generates map snapshots at specified coordinates and zoom levels. The Raster Tile and WMS GetMap endpoints produce tiles for custom map displays. The agent can share these images directly in the conversation for visual context.
