Does PDF.co's OCR work on scanned documents and images?

Yes. PDF.co's extraction endpoints support OCR for scanned PDFs, JPGs, PNGs, and TIFFs. The agent can make scanned documents searchable using the Change Text Searchable endpoint, or extract text directly from scanned sources using the PDF to Text endpoint with OCR enabled.

How does the agent handle large files or long-running conversions?

PDF.co supports asynchronous processing. The agent submits the job and uses the Job Check endpoint to poll for completion. Customers get progress updates while the document processes, and the final result is delivered once ready. No timeout issues on large files.

What authentication does Tars need for PDF.co?

Tars requires your PDF.co API key, available from your PDF.co dashboard. Enter it once in the Tars Tools section. The key is encrypted and stored securely. You can check your remaining API credits through the Account Balance endpoint directly from the conversation.

Can the agent convert PDFs to spreadsheet formats like Excel?

Yes. PDF.co provides dedicated endpoints for PDF to XLS, PDF to XLSX, PDF to CSV, and PDF to JSON conversion. The agent sends the source PDF URL and returns the converted file. This works for both digital PDFs and scanned documents using OCR.

Does Tars store my uploaded documents or converted files?

Tars does not maintain a separate file storage. Documents are processed through PDF.co's servers, which generate temporary URLs for results. PDF.co's own temporary file storage handles the processing lifecycle. Tars references these URLs within the conversation but does not persist files independently.

How is using PDF.co through Tars different from calling the API directly?

Calling PDF.co directly requires writing API requests with proper parameters, handling file URLs, and managing async jobs.
