IP2WHOIS
Who owns that domain? When does it expire? What domains share that server? Your AI agent pulls WHOIS records and hosted domain lists through IP2WHOIS, turning domain intelligence into instant conversational answers. Security teams, sales reps, and compliance officers get the data they need without leaving the chat.

Two powerful APIs that give your AI agent instant access to WHOIS registration data and hosted domain discovery across 1,221 TLDs and 634 ccTLDs.
IP2WHOIS
From security investigations to partnership verification, see how AI agents use IP2WHOIS to answer domain ownership questions without manual research tools.
Your security team reports a suspicious domain mimicking your brand. Your AI Agent queries IP2WHOIS for the domain's WHOIS record and discovers it was registered just 3 days ago with privacy-protected registrant information. The agent then checks the hosting IP for other domains and finds 12 more recently registered lookalike domains. All findings are compiled into the conversation thread for your incident response team.
A vendor submits their company domain as part of an onboarding questionnaire. Your AI Agent runs the domain through IP2WHOIS, confirms the registrant organization matches the vendor's legal name, verifies the domain has been active for 8 years, and notes the nameservers point to a reputable hosting provider. The procurement team gets a verified domain report without any manual WHOIS lookups.
Your product team wants to understand a competitor's infrastructure. Your AI Agent takes the competitor's IP address, calls IP2WHOIS's hosted domains API, and returns a list of all domains sharing that server. The team discovers the competitor hosts 15 microsites and 3 staging environments on the same IP. Infrastructure insights delivered through a simple conversation.

FAQs
IP2WHOIS supports queries for 1,221 top-level domains and 634 country-code TLDs. This covers virtually every active domain extension including .com, .org, .net, country codes like .co.uk and .de, and newer TLDs like .io and .app. Your agent can look up WHOIS data for any domain using a supported extension.
The API returns registrant name, organization, street address, city, state/region, ZIP code, country, phone number, fax number, and email address. Some domains use privacy protection services that mask this information. In those cases, the API returns the privacy provider's details instead of the actual registrant.
Tars requires your IP2WHOIS API key, generated from your IP2WHOIS or IP2Location.io account. Enter the key in the Tars Tools configuration. The free tier allows 500 WHOIS lookups per month. Paid plans increase the query limit.
No. Tars queries IP2WHOIS in real time during each conversation. WHOIS records, registrant details, and hosted domain lists are used only to answer the current question and are not retained in Tars. Fresh data is fetched for every new lookup request.
Yes. The Hosted Domains API accepts an IPv4 or IPv6 address and returns a paginated list of every domain name hosted on that IP. The agent can page through results to build a complete picture of the hosting environment, useful for security investigations and infrastructure mapping.
When a domain uses privacy protection, the WHOIS API returns the privacy provider's contact information instead of the actual owner. Your agent recognizes this pattern and can inform the user that the domain's real registrant is hidden behind a privacy service, suggesting alternative verification methods.
Yes. Both the Domain WHOIS and Hosted Domains APIs support JSON (default) and XML response formats. Your agent can request either format, though JSON is recommended for faster parsing and smaller payloads within the conversation context.
IP2WHOIS queries domain registries in real time or near-real time, so the data reflects the most current registration information available. Creation dates, expiration dates, and nameserver records are accurate as of the time of the query. However, registrant details may lag behind if the registry has not yet propagated recent changes.
Don't limit your AI Agent to basic conversations. Watch how to configure and add powerful tools making your agent smarter and more functional.
