Geolocation and domain data on demand

Four focused APIs that give your AI agent the power to geolocate IPs in bulk, look up domain ownership, and map hosted domains, all in real time.

Bulk IP Geolocation

Submit up to 1,000 IP addresses in a single request. Your AI agent receives country, city, region, latitude, longitude, time zone, ASN, and proxy status for every address. Perfect for log analysis and batch enrichment without multiple API calls.

Domain WHOIS Lookup

A customer provides their domain name. Your agent queries IP2Location.io's WHOIS API and returns creation date, expiration date, registrant details, nameservers, and registrar information. Domain verification completes within seconds of the request.

Discover Hosted Domains

Given an IP address, your agent retrieves every domain hosted on that server. This reveals shared hosting neighbors, helps assess IP reputation, and supports security investigations during technical support conversations.

Geolocate Single IPs

Your agent uses the bulk endpoint with a single IP to get granular geolocation data including country code, city name, coordinates, and proxy flags. Quick lookups power location-based conversation routing and regional content delivery.

Check Domain Age

Your agent extracts domain age from WHOIS records to assess the trustworthiness of a website. Newly registered domains often correlate with phishing attempts. The agent flags young domains during fraud screening conversations.

Identify Registrant Details

Need to verify who owns a domain? Your agent pulls registrant name, organization, email, and phone from IP2Location.io's WHOIS API. Useful for partnership verification, compliance checks, and due diligence during business conversations.

Use Cases

IP and domain intelligence applied

From batch processing visitor logs to verifying domain ownership, your AI agent uses IP2Location.io to make every interaction more informed and secure.

Batch Visitor Analysis for Sales Teams

Your marketing team uploads a list of 500 website visitor IPs. Your AI Agent sends them to IP2Location.io's bulk geolocation endpoint and returns country, city, and ISP data for every address. The sales team instantly sees which regions drove the most traffic. No manual spreadsheet work, no waiting for analytics reports to refresh.

Domain Verification During Partner Onboarding

A new partner submits their domain for integration setup. Your AI Agent queries IP2Location.io's WHOIS API, retrieves the registration date and registrant organization, and confirms the domain has not expired. If the registrant does not match the partner's stated company, the agent flags it for manual review. Verification happens within the onboarding conversation.

Shared Hosting Reputation Check

A security analyst asks your AI Agent to investigate an IP flagged in your firewall. The agent calls the Hosted Domains API to reveal all 47 domains sharing that server. Several are known spam domains. The agent recommends blocking the IP range and documents its findings in the conversation log for the security team.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How many IPs can the agent geolocate in a single bulk request?

The agent can submit up to 1,000 IPv4 or IPv6 addresses in one API call to IP2Location.io's bulk endpoint. Results include country code, city, region, latitude, longitude, ZIP code, time zone, ASN, and proxy status for every address. Responses can be returned in JSON or CSV format.

What domain information does the WHOIS API return?

IP2Location.io's WHOIS API returns domain creation date, updated date, expiration date, domain age, registrar name and URL, registrant name, organization, street address, city, region, country, phone, fax, email, and nameservers. It supports queries for 1,221 TLDs and 634 ccTLDs.

What authentication does Tars need for IP2Location.io?

Tars requires your IP2Location.io API key, generated from your IP2Location.io dashboard. Enter the key in the Tars Tools configuration. All API calls are authenticated with this key. No OAuth or additional credentials needed.

Does Tars store the IP geolocation or WHOIS data it retrieves?

No. Tars calls IP2Location.io's APIs in real time during conversations. Geolocation results, WHOIS records, and hosted domain lists are used to respond to the current query and are not persisted in Tars after the interaction ends.

Can the agent discover all domains hosted on a specific IP address?

Yes. The Hosted Domain API accepts an IPv4 or IPv6 address and returns a paginated list of all domain names hosted on that server. Your agent can browse through pages of results and identify co-hosted domains for security analysis or competitive research.

How is IP2Location.io different from the IP2Location web service?

IP2Location.io is the newer, streamlined platform that consolidates IP geolocation, bulk lookups, WHOIS, and hosted domain APIs into a unified service with a single API key. The original IP2Location web service uses separate product keys for each feature. IP2Location.io is the recommended path for new integrations.

Does the bulk geolocation endpoint detect proxy or VPN usage?

Yes. The bulk endpoint returns an is_proxy flag for each IP address in the batch. For detailed proxy classification including VPN, TOR, and datacenter detection, you can use the optional fields parameter to include proxy-specific data in the response.

Can the agent filter which geolocation fields are returned in bulk requests?

Yes. The optional 'fields' parameter lets you specify exactly which data points to return, such as country_code, city_name, latitude, longitude, or is_proxy. Filtering reduces payload size and speeds up processing when you only need specific data points from large batches.
