The agent uses this data to personalize the conversation, route to regional teams, or apply location-specific policies, all without asking the visitor directly.

Can the agent detect if a visitor is using a VPN or proxy?

Yes. The agent calls IP2Location's Proxy Detection endpoint, which identifies anonymous proxies, open proxies, VPNs, TOR exit nodes, search engine bots, residential proxies, and datacenter IPs. You can configure the agent to flag, block, or escalate based on the proxy type and your security policies.

What data packages does IP2Location's proxy detection support?

IP2Location offers packages from PX1 (basic proxy detection) through PX11 (full detail including proxy type, ISP, domain, usage type, ASN, last seen, threat score, and provider name). Choose the level of detail based on your fraud prevention requirements.

Does Tars store the geolocation data returned by IP2Location?

No. Tars queries IP2Location's API in real time during the conversation. Geolocation results, proxy flags, and WHOIS records are used to personalize the current interaction and are not stored in Tars afterward. Your IP2Location usage stays within your API plan limits.

Can the agent process bulk IP lookups during a conversation?

Yes. IP2Location's bulk endpoint accepts up to 1,000 IP addresses in a single request. The agent can process uploaded lists, log files, or queued IPs and return geolocation data for all of them. Results come back in JSON or CSV format.

How accurate is IP2Location's geolocation data?

IP2Location updates its database daily and supports both IPv4 and IPv6. Accuracy varies by region but typically reaches city-level precision in major markets. The service supports 25 different web service packages (WS1 through WS25) with increasing levels of data granularity.

The agent computes the geographic distance between two IP addresses using IP2Location's Distance API. If a customer's current session IP is 5,000 miles from their usual location, the agent can flag the interaction for additional verification.
