IP intelligence woven into every chat

Geolocation, proxy detection, WHOIS lookups, and bulk IP processing. Your AI agent taps into IP2Location's full API suite to make smarter decisions mid-conversation.

Geolocate IP Addresses

Your AI agent resolves a visitor's IP to country, city, region, latitude, longitude, ISP, and time zone using IP2Location's geolocation API. Conversations adapt instantly to the customer's location without asking where they are.

Detect Proxies and VPNs

Suspicious traffic? Your agent checks the visitor's IP against IP2Location's proxy detection service, identifying anonymous proxies, VPNs, TOR exit nodes, and residential proxies. Fraud prevention happens before the conversation even starts.

Bulk IP Geolocation

Need to process a batch of IPs at once? Your agent submits up to 1,000 addresses to IP2Location's bulk endpoint and receives geolocation data for every one. Ideal for analyzing traffic logs or enriching contact lists during internal workflows.

Look Up Domain WHOIS

A customer mentions their website domain. Your agent queries IP2Location's WHOIS API for registration dates, expiration, registrar info, and nameservers. Domain ownership verification happens right inside the conversation thread.

Find Hosted Domains

Your agent retrieves the list of domain names hosted on any IP address. This reveals co-hosted sites, identifies shared hosting environments, and helps assess the reputation of an IP address during security or compliance conversations.

Calculate IP Distance

Two IP addresses, one question: how far apart are they? Your agent calls IP2Location's distance endpoint to compute geographic separation between any two IPs. Useful for fraud detection when a customer's location suddenly shifts across continents.

Use Cases

Location-aware support in practice

See how businesses leverage IP intelligence through their AI agents to personalize service, prevent fraud, and make data-driven decisions during customer interactions.

Personalized Service Based on Visitor Location

A customer lands on your website from an unfamiliar region. Your AI Agent geolocates their IP through IP2Location, determines they are in Germany, and automatically adjusts the conversation language, currency, and shipping options. The customer receives locally relevant answers from the first message. Your support team never needed to ask 'Where are you located?'

Fraud Prevention Before Checkout

During a high-value transaction, your AI Agent checks the buyer's IP against IP2Location's proxy detection API. The IP is flagged as a TOR exit node originating from a datacenter. The agent escalates the transaction for manual review and informs the customer that additional verification is needed. Fraudulent orders get caught before they cost you money.

Domain Ownership Verification for Partnerships

A business partner claims ownership of a domain during an onboarding conversation. Your AI Agent queries IP2Location's WHOIS API, retrieves the registrant details, creation date, and nameservers, then cross-references with the partner's provided information. Domain verification completes within the chat. Your legal team skips the manual lookup process.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AI agent geolocate a visitor's IP address?

The agent calls IP2Location's IP Geolocation API with the visitor's IP address. The API returns country, city, region, latitude, longitude, ZIP code, ISP, time zone, and more. The agent uses this data to personalize the conversation, route to regional teams, or apply location-specific policies, all without asking the visitor directly.

Can the agent detect if a visitor is using a VPN or proxy?

Yes. The agent calls IP2Location's Proxy Detection endpoint, which identifies anonymous proxies, open proxies, VPNs, TOR exit nodes, search engine bots, residential proxies, and datacenter IPs. You can configure the agent to flag, block, or escalate based on the proxy type and your security policies.

What data packages does IP2Location's proxy detection support?

IP2Location offers packages from PX1 (basic proxy detection) through PX11 (full detail including proxy type, ISP, domain, usage type, ASN, last seen, threat score, and provider name). Choose the level of detail based on your fraud prevention requirements.

Does Tars store the geolocation data returned by IP2Location?

No. Tars queries IP2Location's API in real time during the conversation. Geolocation results, proxy flags, and WHOIS records are used to personalize the current interaction and are not stored in Tars afterward. Your IP2Location usage stays within your API plan limits.

Can the agent process bulk IP lookups during a conversation?

Yes. IP2Location's bulk endpoint accepts up to 1,000 IP addresses in a single request. The agent can process uploaded lists, log files, or queued IPs and return geolocation data for all of them. Results come back in JSON or CSV format.

How accurate is IP2Location's geolocation data?

IP2Location updates its database daily and supports both IPv4 and IPv6. Accuracy varies by region but typically reaches city-level precision in major markets. The service supports 25 different web service packages (WS1 through WS25) with increasing levels of data granularity.

Can the agent look up who owns a specific domain name?

Yes. The agent queries IP2Location's IP2WHOIS Domain WHOIS API with any domain name and receives registrar details, creation and expiration dates, registrant contact information, and nameservers. This supports 1,221 TLDs and 634 ccTLDs for comprehensive domain intelligence.

How does IP distance calculation help with fraud detection?

The agent computes the geographic distance between two IP addresses using IP2Location's Distance API. If a customer's current session IP is 5,000 miles from their usual location, the agent can flag the interaction for additional verification. This is particularly useful for account takeover detection and suspicious login alerts.
