How does the AI agent convert customer addresses into map coordinates?

The agent uses HERE's Geocode endpoint, passing the address as a free-text query or structured key-value pairs (street, city, postal code, country). HERE returns precise latitude and longitude coordinates along with match confidence scores. The agent supports geocoding in multiple languages using the lang parameter.

Can the agent calculate routes for different transport modes?

Yes. HERE's routing API supports car, truck, pedestrian, and bicycle transport modes. The agent passes the appropriate mode when calculating routes. For truck routing, it can include vehicle-specific parameters like weight, height, and fuel type that affect road restrictions and toll calculations.

Does the agent provide real-time traffic data or just static routes?

Both. The agent accesses HERE's Traffic Flow API for current speed and congestion metrics and the Traffic Incidents API for accidents, construction, and road closures. When calculating routes, it factors in live traffic conditions to provide accurate ETAs rather than theoretical travel times.

What location data does Tars access through my HERE account?

Tars queries HERE's public location services including geocoding, routing, places discovery, traffic, weather, and map tiles. All requests are authenticated with your HERE API key. Data is fetched in real time during conversations and is not stored, cached, or aggregated by Tars between sessions.

Can the agent search for specific types of businesses near a location?

Yes. The agent uses HERE's Browse and Discover APIs with category filters. HERE's Places database includes over 120 million locations. The agent can search by category IDs like restaurants, gas stations, or hospitals, and optionally filter by food types or business names within a specified radius.

How is this different from embedding a HERE map on my website?

An embedded map requires users to search, zoom, and interact visually. With Tars, the AI agent handles location queries conversationally. Customers describe where they are in natural language, and the agent geocodes, routes, or searches without any map interaction. It works across WhatsApp, SMS, and web, not just visual interfaces.

Yes. The agent uses HERE's Waypoint Sequence endpoint to calculate the most efficient visit order for multiple stops. It accepts an origin, destination, and intermediate waypoints, then returns the optimized sequence based on travel time or distance, factoring in departure time and traffic conditions.

Yes. HERE's weather APIs are fully integrated. The agent can retrieve current observations, 7-day daily forecasts, hourly forecasts up to 48 hours, severe weather alerts, and sunrise/sunset astronomy data. All weather data is location-specific, queried by coordinates, city name, or ZIP code.
