How does the AI agent search for files across my entire Google Drive?

The agent uses Google Drive's search API with parameters like file name, MIME type, owner email, content keywords, and date ranges. It supports advanced query operators, so a request like 'find the Smith Corp contract from last month' translates into a targeted search returning precise results.

Can the agent control who gets access to shared files?

Yes. The agent uses Google Drive's permissions API to grant viewer, commenter, or editor roles to specific email addresses. It can set link-sharing preferences, apply domain restrictions, and even set access expiration dates. Every permission change follows your organization's Drive policies.

What Google Drive scopes does Tars request?

Tars requests the drive.file OAuth scope, which limits access to files the agent creates or files the user explicitly opens through the integration. It does not grant broad access to your entire Drive. You authorize through one-click OAuth and revoke anytime from Google Account settings.

Does Tars store copies of my Google Drive files?

No. Tars accesses files in real time through the Google Drive API. File metadata, content, and sharing details are fetched live during conversations. We do not download, cache, or store your Drive files on our servers. Everything stays in your Google Drive.

Can the agent handle Google Workspace file formats like Docs and Sheets?

Yes. The agent recognizes Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other Workspace file types. When downloading, it exports them to standard formats like PDF, DOCX, or CSV. When searching, it can filter by specific MIME types to find only the file format you need.

How does the agent organize files it uploads?

You configure the folder destination in the agent's workflow. The agent can create new folders, use existing ones, or dynamically select folders based on customer data like account name or case number. Files are placed with proper names and metadata from the start.

What happens if a customer requests a file they should not have access to?

The agent respects your Google Drive sharing policies. If the authenticated Drive account does not have access to a file, the search will not return it. You can also configure the agent with access rules that limit which folders or file types it can share with external users.

Can the agent work with shared drives and team-owned files?

Yes. The agent supports both personal My Drive and shared drives (formerly Team Drives). It can list shared drives, search within them, and manage files with the same search and permission capabilities available for personal Drive files.
