Can the AI agent read Excel files stored on SharePoint in addition to OneDrive?

Yes. The integration supports both OneDrive and SharePoint through the Microsoft Graph API. Your agent can read ranges, list tables, update cells, and perform all operations on Excel workbooks stored in either location. You provide the site ID for SharePoint files, and the agent handles the rest.

What Microsoft 365 permissions does Tars require to access my Excel files?

Tars requests Files.ReadWrite, Sites.ReadWrite.All, User.Read, and offline_access scopes through OAuth. This allows the agent to read and modify Excel workbooks in your OneDrive and SharePoint. You authorize through Microsoft's standard consent flow, and you can revoke access at any time from your Microsoft account settings.

Can the agent handle workbooks with multiple worksheets and complex table structures?

Yes. The agent can list all worksheets in a workbook, enumerate tables within each sheet, read specific ranges, and navigate between sheets. It handles named items, table columns, filtered views, and sorted data. For complex operations, the agent creates a workbook session to ensure consistent reads across multiple calls.

Does the agent preserve Excel formulas when updating cell values?

When the agent writes values to a range, it updates the cells specified without affecting formulas in other cells. If you write to a cell that contains a formula, the formula will be replaced with the new value. The agent can also read formula results from calculated cells without modifying them.

How is this different from using Microsoft Copilot in Excel?

Copilot works inside Excel for the person using the application. What happens if two people are editing the same Excel file the agent is accessing?

The Microsoft Graph API handles concurrency through workbook sessions. The agent can create a persistent session that locks the file for consistent reads and writes, or use a non-persistent session that works alongside other editors. You configure which behavior fits your workflow.

Is there a limit to how much data the agent can read from a single workbook?

Microsoft Graph API has a 5MB request payload limit per call. For very large workbooks, the agent reads specific ranges rather than entire sheets, which is more efficient and faster. Table row pagination is supported for large datasets, so the agent can iterate through thousands of rows as needed.
