Which ElevenLabs voice models can the AI agent use for text-to-speech?

The agent can access all models available on your ElevenLabs account, including Eleven Multilingual v2, Flash v2.5 (around 75ms latency), and Turbo v2.5. It retrieves the full model list via the API and selects the best one based on your language requirements and latency preferences.

Can the agent generate speech in multiple languages within one conversation?

Yes. ElevenLabs Multilingual v2 supports 70+ languages. If a customer switches languages mid-conversation, the agent generates speech in the new language without needing a different voice or model. Language detection happens automatically in the synthesis request.

How does voice cloning work through the Tars integration?

You upload audio samples of the voice you want to clone. The agent sends these files to ElevenLabs' Add Voice endpoint, creating a custom voice in your library. Once created, this voice can be used for all future text-to-speech requests. ElevenLabs requires clear, high-quality samples for best results.

Does Tars store the generated audio files?

No. Audio is generated by ElevenLabs on demand and streamed or delivered to the customer during the conversation. Tars does not maintain a repository of generated audio clips. Your ElevenLabs account history retains generation records per your ElevenLabs subscription settings.

Can the agent place actual phone calls using ElevenLabs voices?

Yes. If you have imported Twilio phone numbers into ElevenLabs' Conversational AI platform, the agent can initiate outbound calls and batch calls using those numbers. The AI voice handles the call, and the agent manages the phone number configuration and call parameters.

How is this different from using ElevenLabs directly in my application?

Direct ElevenLabs integration requires engineering work, API calls in your codebase, and voice management logic. Tars wraps all of this into a conversational agent that non-technical teams can configure. Your marketing or support team can trigger speech generation without writing any code.

What happens if the ElevenLabs API is slow or temporarily unavailable?

The agent handles timeouts gracefully. If speech generation fails, it falls back to delivering the text response instead of audio. Customers still get their answer. Flash v2.5 model is optimized for low latency at around 75ms, making delays rare under normal conditions.

Can the agent manage pronunciation dictionaries for industry-specific terms?

Yes. The agent can add pronunciation dictionaries with custom rules for medical terms, brand names, or technical jargon. It uploads PLS lexicon files to ElevenLabs and attaches them to projects, ensuring synthesized speech pronounces specialized vocabulary correctly every time.
