Live web intelligence for smarter conversations

Your AI agent breaks free from static knowledge bases by searching the open web in real time, delivering current answers to any question your customers throw at it.

Search the Web Live

A customer asks about a topic your agent was not trained on. The agent fires a DuckDuckGo search query, retrieves relevant web results with titles, snippets, and URLs, and synthesizes a helpful answer. Real-time knowledge without retraining your model.

Summarize Search Results

Instead of returning raw links, the agent processes DuckDuckGo results with the summarization flag enabled. Customers receive a concise, readable answer distilled from multiple web sources, saving them the effort of clicking through search results themselves.

Fact-Check Conversations

When a customer makes a claim or asks for verification, the agent runs a targeted DuckDuckGo search to find supporting or contradicting evidence. Responses are grounded in current web data rather than potentially outdated training information.

Look Up Competitor Info

A prospect asks how your product compares to a competitor. The agent searches DuckDuckGo for current competitor pricing, features, or reviews, and uses verified external information to strengthen your sales positioning in real time.

Research Product Questions

A customer asks a highly specific technical question about a product or service. The agent searches the web using a scoped query prefix, targeting documentation sites or knowledge bases, and returns the most relevant technical answer.

Retrieve Current Events

When customers reference recent news, regulation changes, or industry trends, the agent searches DuckDuckGo for the latest information. Conversations stay relevant to what is happening right now instead of defaulting to outdated knowledge.

Answering Questions Beyond Your Knowledge Base

A customer asks about shipping regulations to a specific country that is not covered in your documentation. Your AI Agent searches DuckDuckGo for the latest customs and import requirements, finds authoritative government sources, and provides a clear summary with a link to the official guidelines. The customer gets a helpful answer immediately instead of waiting for someone to research it manually.

Real-Time Pricing and Availability Research

A prospect asks how your service compares to a competitor's current pricing. Your AI Agent runs a DuckDuckGo search for the competitor's pricing page, extracts the relevant tier information, and positions your offering against real, current data. The prospect receives an honest, well-informed comparison. Your sales team closes more deals with accurate competitive intelligence delivered instantly.

Staying Current on Industry Regulations

A financial services customer asks whether a new compliance rule affects their account configuration. Your AI Agent searches DuckDuckGo for the regulation by name, finds the most recent official guidance, and summarizes the key requirements. The customer gets regulatory clarity in seconds. FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Does DuckDuckGo Search require any API keys or credentials?

No. DuckDuckGo Search is a built-in tool in Tars that requires no API keys, OAuth, or account setup. Simply enable it in your agent configuration and it is ready to use. This makes it the fastest integration to deploy for giving your agent web search capabilities.

How does the agent decide when to search the web versus answer from training data?

Your AI agent is configured with a knowledge base and instructions. When a customer question falls outside that scope, the agent recognizes the gap and triggers a DuckDuckGo search automatically. You can also configure explicit triggers, for example, always searching for pricing, competitor, or regulatory questions.

Does the agent return raw search links or synthesized answers?

Both options are available. By default, the agent retrieves search results with titles, snippets, and URLs. With the summarization flag enabled, the agent processes those results into a coherent, conversational answer. You control whether customers see links, summaries, or a combination.

How many search results does the agent retrieve per query?

The default is 5 results per search, but you can configure this up to any number using the max_results parameter. For most customer conversations, 3 to 5 results provide enough context for the agent to synthesize a comprehensive answer without information overload.

Is customer search data private when using DuckDuckGo?

Yes. DuckDuckGo is built on privacy-first principles and does not track users or build search profiles. Search queries made through the Tars integration follow the same privacy standards. Neither DuckDuckGo nor Tars links search activity back to individual customers.

Can I scope the agent's searches to specific websites or domains?

Yes. The query_prefix parameter lets you prepend terms like 'site:docs.example.com' to every search. This scopes results to specific domains, such as your documentation site, a trusted industry resource, or official government portals. Great for ensuring the agent pulls from authoritative sources.

What happens if DuckDuckGo returns no relevant results?

If the search produces no useful results, the agent falls back to its training data or informs the customer that it could not find current information. It can then offer to connect the customer with a human agent or suggest refining their question. No dead ends in the conversation.

How is this different from training the agent on more documentation?

Training data is static, becoming outdated the moment something changes. DuckDuckGo Search gives your agent access to the current web in real time. Pricing changes, new regulations, competitor updates, and breaking news are all instantly available without retraining. It complements your knowledge base rather than replacing it.
