DocuPost

Your AI agent sends real mail, letters and postcards printed and delivered by USPS

When a conversation requires physical mail, your AI agent triggers DocuPost to print and send a letter or postcard via the U.S. Postal Service. No printing, no stamps, no trips to the post office. The customer provides an address, and the agent handles the rest. Digital conversations that produce tangible results.

Physical mail sent from a digital conversation

Your AI agent bridges the gap between online interactions and physical mail delivery, sending printed letters and postcards through USPS without any manual steps.

Send Physical Letters

A customer needs a formal document mailed to a physical address. Your AI agent calls DocuPost's Send Letter endpoint with the recipient name, address, and PDF file URL. The letter is printed and delivered via USPS First Class, Standard, or Priority mail.

Mail Custom Postcards

Your AI agent sends branded postcards by providing front and back image URLs along with recipient details to DocuPost's Send Postcard endpoint. Promotional mailers, thank-you cards, or event reminders go out directly from a conversation.

Choose Delivery Speed

The agent selects the appropriate USPS delivery tier based on urgency. First Class for standard timing, Priority for faster delivery. The delivery_type parameter is set during the API call, giving your business control over shipping speed and cost.

Schedule Future Mailings

Not everything needs to ship today. Your agent sets a scheduled_send_date parameter so DocuPost holds the letter or postcard until the specified date. Useful for birthday cards, renewal reminders, or time-sensitive notices.

Print in Color or Duplex

Your agent specifies whether a letter should print in color or black-and-white, and whether to use single-sided or double-sided (duplex) printing. These parameters are controlled per letter, letting you balance cost and presentation for each mailing.

Include Return Envelopes

When a mailed letter requires a response, your agent enables the return_envelope parameter. DocuPost includes a pre-addressed return envelope with the letter, making it easy for the recipient to mail back signed documents or payments.

Use Cases

When digital is not enough, send real mail

Explore how businesses use AI agents to trigger physical mail delivery when a conversation calls for something tangible that arrives in a mailbox.

Compliance Notices Mailed Automatically

A financial services company must send regulatory notices by postal mail. When a compliance event is triggered during a customer conversation, the AI Agent generates the notice PDF, passes it to DocuPost with the customer's verified address, and sends it via USPS First Class. The notice is in the mail within 24 hours. No one in your compliance team prints, folds, or stamps anything.

Welcome Postcards for New Customers

A customer signs up through your AI Agent on the website. After capturing their mailing address during onboarding, the agent sends a branded welcome postcard via DocuPost. The front image features your brand, and the back includes a personalized thank-you message. The customer receives a physical touchpoint days later, strengthening their connection with your brand beyond the screen.

Renewal Reminders Scheduled Weeks in Advance

A subscription-based business needs to remind customers about upcoming renewals. Your AI Agent identifies customers approaching their renewal date during a support conversation and schedules a DocuPost letter for 30 days before expiry. The letter includes renewal instructions and a return envelope for payment. Reminders go out on time every time without anyone manually tracking dates.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AI agent actually send a physical letter through DocuPost?

The agent collects the recipient's name and mailing address during the conversation, then calls DocuPost's Send Letter API with those details plus a URL to the PDF document. DocuPost prints the letter and delivers it via USPS. You can specify delivery speed, color printing, duplex, and whether to include a return envelope.

Can the agent send postcards with custom front and back designs?

Yes. The agent provides publicly accessible URLs for the front and back images of the postcard to DocuPost's Send Postcard endpoint. You design the images in advance, and the agent references them when a postcard needs to be sent. DocuPost prints and mails the postcard via USPS First Class.

What delivery options are available for letters sent through DocuPost?

DocuPost supports USPS First Class, Standard, and Priority mail for letters. The agent sets the delivery_type parameter based on your business rules or the customer's preference. Postcards are sent via USPS First Class only. Delivery timelines follow standard USPS service levels for each class.

Can the agent schedule a letter to be mailed on a future date?

Yes. The agent includes a scheduled_send_date parameter in the API call, formatted as YYYY-MM-DD. DocuPost holds the letter until that date before printing and mailing it. This is useful for renewal reminders, birthday mailings, or any time-sensitive communication that should arrive on a specific schedule.

Does DocuPost only work within the United States?

DocuPost sends mail through the U.S. Postal Service, so recipients must have a valid U.S. mailing address. The sender address also needs to be U.S.-based. International mailing is not currently supported through the DocuPost API. For international needs, consider pairing with an additional mailing service.

How do I test the integration without actually mailing a letter?

DocuPost provides a test mode. The agent can set the test parameter to true when calling the Send Letter endpoint. The API processes the request and returns a response as if the letter were sent, but no physical mail is produced and no postage charges apply. This lets you validate your workflow end to end before going live.

Does Tars store the recipient addresses or document files?

Tars passes the recipient address and PDF URL to DocuPost during the API call and does not maintain a separate database of mailing addresses or document files. DocuPost handles printing, address validation, and delivery. Your data retention is governed by DocuPost's policies and your own document storage setup.

How is this different from printing and mailing letters myself?

Manual mailing requires printing, folding, stuffing envelopes, applying postage, and visiting a post office. With Tars and DocuPost, the AI agent handles everything programmatically during a customer conversation. The letter goes from digital file to USPS delivery without anyone touching paper. It is faster, more consistent, and scales to any volume.
