How does the AI agent send a document for e-signature through Documenso?

The agent calls Documenso's Distribute Document endpoint with the document ID. This triggers signing invitations to all pending recipients or to specific recipients you target. The document appears in each signer's inbox with a secure link to complete their signature. All of this happens within the conversation flow.

Can I use my existing Documenso templates with the Tars integration?

Yes. The agent accesses your full template library through the List Templates and Get Template endpoints. When a customer needs a specific agreement, the agent instantiates the template with the Use Template endpoint, populating recipient details and pre-filling fields automatically. No need to recreate anything.

Does the agent know when all signers have completed signing?

The agent queries Documenso's Find Documents endpoint and filters by status. It can detect whether a document is still pending, partially signed, or fully completed. Once all signatures are in, the agent can immediately download the finalized PDF and deliver it to the requesting party.

Is my document data secure with Documenso and Tars together?

Documenso is open-source, so you can self-host it for maximum control over your data. Tars communicates with Documenso via API calls during conversations and does not permanently store your document content. The signing process happens on Documenso's infrastructure, and your API key controls all access permissions.

Can the agent handle signing order, so certain people sign before others?

Yes. Documenso supports signer ordering natively. The agent can update the signingOrder field on each recipient using the Update Document Recipient endpoint. This ensures that signers receive the document in the correct sequence, which is essential for hierarchical approval workflows.

What happens if a signer never opens the signing request?

The agent can resend the signing invitation using Documenso's Resend Document for Signing endpoint. If a customer mentions that a signer has not received the email, the agent triggers a fresh notification immediately. You can also configure the agent to check for overdue signatures proactively.

How is this different from using Documenso's web interface directly?

Documenso's web interface requires manual login, template selection, and recipient entry. With Tars, the AI agent collects signer details during a conversation and handles template instantiation, distribution, status checks, and downloads automatically. Your team never opens the Documenso dashboard for routine signing workflows.

Can the agent correct a recipient's email address after the document was created?

Yes. The agent uses the Update Document Recipient endpoint to modify a recipient's email, name, or role before signing is completed. This prevents the need to void and recreate documents when someone provides incorrect contact information during the initial conversation.
