What weather data points can the AI agent access from my Ambient Weather station?

Your agent can retrieve all sensor data your station collects including outdoor and indoor temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, wind gust, rainfall rates, daily/weekly/monthly rain totals, UV index, solar radiation, and battery status. The specific data available depends on which sensors your station model includes.

How current is the weather data my AI agent receives?

Ambient Weather stations upload data in 5-minute or 30-minute intervals depending on your settings. When your agent queries the API, it receives the most recent upload from each station. For applications requiring sub-minute updates, consider using Ambient Weather's real-time websocket connection for near-instantaneous readings.

Can the agent access data from multiple weather stations I own?

Yes, the Get Devices endpoint returns all weather stations registered to your Ambient Weather account. Your agent can query any or all stations, making it ideal for property managers, farmers with multiple fields, or businesses with distributed locations needing consolidated weather monitoring.

Do I need the Ambient Weather Network subscription for this integration?

You need an AmbientWeather.net account with API access enabled. The API key is available from your account page. Basic data access comes with your weather station registration - no premium subscription required. However, some advanced features like historical data exports may require their Data Suite subscription.

What permissions does Tars require for my Ambient Weather account?

Tars requires only your API key and Application key - both generated from your AmbientWeather.net account settings. These keys provide read-only access to your device list and sensor data. Tars cannot modify your station settings, delete data, or access your account credentials.

How does this compare to just using the Ambient Weather app or Alexa skill?

While the Ambient Weather app and Alexa skill display readings on demand, Tars enables conversational intelligence. Your agent can combine weather data with business logic - like recommending irrigation schedules based on rainfall, alerting specific team members when conditions exceed thresholds, or answering natural language questions about trends across multiple stations.

Can my agent trigger alerts when weather conditions reach certain thresholds?

The Ambient Weather API provides current readings which your agent can evaluate against thresholds you define. While Ambient Weather Network has its own alerting system, your Tars agent adds conversational follow-up - explaining why an alert triggered, recommending actions, and answering questions about the conditions that caused it.

What happens if my weather station goes offline during a conversation?

If a station is offline, the API returns the last known readings along with the timestamp of that data. Your agent can recognize stale data and inform users that readings are from a specific time ago, or fall back to nearby stations if you have multiple devices registered to your account.
