Redirect gambit - Tars Docs

A Redirect gambit sends its messages and then hands the end user off. It either counts down and moves the page, or shows the address as a link.

When to use it

Use it to hand the conversation to a page that does the job better: a checkout, a booking calendar, a returns portal, a signed document. Put the reason in the gambit’s messages, so the end user knows why they are leaving.

The gambit and its editor

Every page in this section shows the same demo flow: Start, a Welcome message, the gambit this page covers, then End. The gambit sits third, selected, with its editor open on the right. The rest of the screen is dimmed.

Configuration

With Open in New Tab off, the page leaves the conversation when the countdown ends. Put the redirect at the end of a path, or turn the switch on.

Setting	What it does
Redirect URL	Where to send the end user. Type @ to insert a captured variable, so the address can carry the conversation’s own data.
Open in New Tab	Off by default. On, the widget shows the address as a link with the line “Click the link to open it in a new tab”, and there is no countdown.
Redirect Timeout (seconds)	With Open in New Tab off, the countdown shown as Redirecting in 3… before the page moves. It defaults to 3, and the field allows 1 to 30.
Preview	A link built from the current URL. Select it to check the address. Variables show as `[name]`, and the link stays inactive until they resolve in a conversation.

Channel behavior

On WhatsApp nothing navigates. The gambit sends its message with the address added as plain text, so keep the message meaningful on its own.
