A campaign sends an approved WhatsApp template message to a set of end users. This page explains the two campaign modes, the prerequisites, and the delivery rules that protect your WhatsApp numbers.
A WhatsApp campaign send built from a channel account, a pinned approved template and a segment, passing an eligibility check and a wallet reservation before the template message goes out.
This capability needs the plan or higher.

The two campaign modes

An audience campaign has two delivery options. Send Now sends immediately, and Schedule sends once at the date and time you pick. A webhook campaign is a standing integration instead. It is active from the moment you create it and stays active until you cancel it. See Run webhook campaigns. The builder states that Audience versus Webhook cannot be changed after creation. To switch mode, create a second campaign.
An audience campaign targeting a segment and sending once with Send Now or Schedule, next to a Webhook campaign that sends on every API call until it is cancelled.

What you need before you send

The Campaigns page gates sending until two prerequisites are met.
  • A Premium or Enterprise plan. Until you upgrade, the page shows Campaigns unlock on Premium.
  • A funded campaign wallet. Campaigns run on prepaid funds, so the page shows Fund your campaign wallet until the wallet is first funded. The prompt does not come back if the balance later returns to zero.
You also need a WhatsApp number that is connected to an agent, an approved WhatsApp template, and, for an audience campaign, a segment to target. See Connect WhatsApp and Segments.

Delivery rules

One running audience campaign is allowed per WhatsApp number. Launching a second campaign on a number that already has one running is rejected with the error Another campaign is already running on this channel account. Only a running campaign blocks the launch. The approved template version is pinned when an audience campaign launches. If the template changes after that, the remaining deliveries fail with the error code template_version_drift. If Meta withdraws the template’s approval, the campaign pauses automatically. Before a scheduled campaign sends, Tars re-checks the paid plan, template approval, required media, the number’s health, and parameter validity. A campaign that fails these checks is marked failed. An audience campaign also enforces eligibility per recipient. End users without a WhatsApp number or without granted WhatsApp consent are excluded, along with marketing templates to US numbers. A webhook campaign rejects a call only when the recipient has opted out of WhatsApp. See End user consent.

Lifecycle and money

A running campaign can be paused and resumed. A scheduled campaign can be cancelled until sending starts, and cancelling refunds its unused reserved funds. After sending starts, pausing is the only way to stop it. Finished campaigns can be cloned, archived, or used to re-send to failed recipients as a new draft. Each campaign reserves its estimated cost from the campaign wallet before sending. Actual cost settles after provider results arrive, and unused reservations are refunded. Running campaigns recover automatically from interrupted delivery work. See Fund your campaign wallet.
