# Create an agent

> Create a new agent from the library, fill in the create dialog, and duplicate an existing agent from its draft or published version.

At the end of this page, you have a new agent open in the builder, ready to edit.

## Before you start

Before you start, sign in to <a href={urls.app}>the dashboard</a> and select the organization you want to work in.

* Your role must allow resource management. The Viewer, Billing, and Auditor roles cannot create agents.

## Create a new agent

    Pick a short name your team will recognize in the library. You can rename the agent later.

  <Step title="Describe it, or skip the description">
    The description is optional. It helps teammates find the right agent in a large library. A counter below the field tracks the length.

You can also press Cmd+K or Ctrl+K and create an agent from the command palette.

## The agent library

The library lists every agent in your organization.

| Control           | What it does                                                                            |
| ----------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Search agents** | Filters the library by name as you type.                                                |
| Status filter     | **All status**, **Draft**, or **Published**.                                            |
| Sort              | **Newest first**, **Oldest first**, **Recently edited**, **Name A-Z**, or **Name Z-A**. |
| View toggle       | Switches between the card grid and a compact list.                                      |
| Count chip        | Shows how many agents match the current filters.                                        |

Each agent card shows the name, the gambit count, when it was last edited, and a state:

| State                               | Meaning                                                                                                                              |
| ----------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Draft**                           | The agent has never been published. End users cannot talk to it.                                                                     |
| **Published v1**, **v2**, and so on | The agent is live at that version.                                                                                                   |
| Amber dot                           | The agent is live, but the draft has edits that are not yet published. Hold the pointer over the dot to see **Unpublished changes**. |

The menu on each card has **Configure**, **Duplicate**, **Copy link**, and, for organization admins, **Delete**.

## Duplicate an agent

Open the card menu shown above and select **Duplicate**. The dialog names the copy after the original and lets you pick the source:

| Source                     | What it copies                                                                                  |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Current draft**          | Whatever is in the builder right now, including unpublished changes.                            |
| **Last published version** | The version currently live. This option is unavailable when the agent has never been published. |

The **Last published version** option names the version it would copy, so you can tell which release you are branching from.

The copy includes all gambits, edges, agent configs, and theme settings. It receives its own deployment, so it does not depend on the source agent remaining active.

## Delete an agent

Organization admins can select **Delete** from the card menu. Deleting an agent removes it and all of its conversations from the dashboard. There is no self-serve way to bring it back.

  Deletion cannot be undone. Duplicate the agent first if you might need the flow again.

## Verify

The new agent appears in the library in the **Draft** state. Open it to confirm the builder loads.
