# Voice billing

> How voice minutes, minute packs, concurrent calls, phone number fees and voice budgets work, and where to see them.

> [!NOTE]

> This capability is in **beta**. Behavior can change before general availability.

Voice calls have their own billing, separate from chat conversations. Your organization pays for call time in voice minutes, for how many calls can run at once, and for the phone numbers it rents. All of it shows in the **Voice** section of **Settings** → **Billing**.

## Voice minutes

One voice minute is 60 seconds of voice calls. Chat conversations have their own balance.

| Source of minutes | How it works |
| - | - |
| **Included allowance** | The minutes your plan includes. Included minutes renew monthly, even on annual plans. |
| **Purchased pack** | A pack you bought with **Buy minutes**. A purchased pack keeps its own expiry across billing cycles. |

The **Voice minutes** card shows the minutes available, the minutes used this period, and each lot of minutes with its source and expiry. Members with the Admin or Billing role see **Buy minutes**. See [Roles and permissions](https://hellotars.com/docs/guides/billing/roles-and-permissions.md).

Every call uses minutes, including test calls from the test panel. Deleting a call's content does not refund the minutes the call used.

### Activation

On Premium, voice starts after your first minute pack. Until then, the **Voice minutes** card shows **Not activated** and **Buy your first pack to start calling**. On Enterprise, voice is active as soon as Tars turns it on for your organization.

## Concurrent calls

The **Concurrent calls** card shows how many voice calls can happen at the same time. Your plan includes some concurrent calls. To raise the number, select **Buy slots** and choose **Additional slots** at the **Additional-slot rate**.

The **Voice calls** policy in **Settings** → **Privacy** can keep some concurrent-call slots free for incoming calls. See [Set the voice call policy](https://hellotars.com/docs/guides/security/voice-privacy.md).

## Phone numbers

Each number has a monthly rental, separate from call minutes and concurrent calls. A number bought from Tars shows its fee before purchase, and the fee is prorated from activation. Number rental does not include minutes or concurrent calls. **Manage numbers** on the **Phone numbers** card opens the phone number settings.

Numbers connected from your own Twilio account or through SIP stay with that provider. For a SIP connection, your carrier bills the telephony usage. See [Manage phone numbers](https://hellotars.com/docs/guides/voice/launch/phone-numbers.md).

## Monthly voice minutes budget

A budget counts every voice minute used this billing month, included and purchased. Select **Set budget** on the **Monthly voice minutes budget** card.

| Setting | Options |
| - | - |
| **Scope** | **Organization**, or one **Voice AI agent**. |
| **Monthly minutes** | The minutes allowed this month. Zero is a configured budget. |
| **Mode** | **Soft · notify at 50%, 80%, 100%**, or **Hard · block new calls at 100%**. |

**Remove budget** leaves the scope with no budget.
