# Contacts API

> Manage end-user records with normalized identities, duplicate detection and audited writes.

The Contacts API manages the end-user records in your organization. Reading requires contacts:read, and writing requires contacts:write.

## Records and origins

A record stores identity details, tags, channel identifiers and consent. List results can be filtered by inbound, imported, manual or outbound\_call origin.

Create accepts inbound, imported or manual origin. Supply an email, phone or channel identifier so the record is reachable.

## Duplicates

Email and phone are normalized. A duplicate single create returns 409 contact\_exists with the matching field and existing record ID.

A batch accepts 1 to 50 entries. Invalid entries fail the whole request, while duplicate entries are skipped.
